Hi guys,
I picked up this Oncidium on tuesday....it was looking in rough shape, but the flowers were so pretty and it was 7.99! My question is this...is this thing going to make it?

If it were mine, I would re-pot it into new mix. The flower is nice, but the plant has issues. Some TLC is definitely needed. For $7.99 you can't go wrong!!

I TOTALLY agree Bill, thanks for confirming my future plans . After the flowers drop (or maybe sooner) I plan on repotting in bark medium. Right now it is in spag (I think), not so good. Hopefully it pulls through!

Well, I just went ahead and unpotted, and I am glad I did. It was very root bound and was planted with a mixture of peat and sphag. I am pretty sure the airflow around those roots was zero, and rot was inevitable. I repotted into a medium bark mix, hopefully this does the poor guy better!

Here is the root ball, this was all stuffed in to a three inch pot:

And here it is repotted:

I don't know my oncidium - types very well, but might this plant have some Zygoneria in it? Is it fragrant?

You may want to remove the flower spike (unfortunately - it is a beauty!) to force the plant into a growth mode; definitely worth saving.
