Default Beallara Tahoma Glacier backbulb induction

Hi all,

I've got a very healthy Beallara Tahoma Glacier green, and it currently has 2 large pseudobulbs which has just finished flowering, and 1 older pseudobulb which only has 2 leaves left on it. The 2 large pseudobulbs have recently spawned a new pseudobulb each.

I would like to find out if there's a way of converting some of these pseudobulbs into backbulbs? (storage and transport purposes) I'm quite keen on just removing a pseudobulb, and removing its leaves and roots and hoping that it'll dry up. Would that be advisable?

Thanks.

All the previous-bloomed pseudobulbs are backbulbs that provide nutrients and support new growths. Cutting them off and letting them dry off will only make the new growths weak, and you might end up killing both the new growths and the old growths.

The pseudobulbs in orchids are different from actual bulbs of perennial plants. You cannot cut off a pseudobulb and "dry them off" for next year's planting. Once you cut off a backbulb and it dries off, then it's dead.

Leave the plant as it is, and when it has over 6 matured pseudobulbs, then you can divide the plant in 2 parts (3 matured p-bulbs each) if you want to share with your friends.

You can seperate the old pseudo bulb by cutting the rhyzome (connection) between it and the younger p-bulbs right in the pot. Then, if and when it sprouts, you have the start of a new plant without disturbing everything.
