Tolumnia Genting Sunshine... I couldn't resist
This weekend is the local clubs' show! I stopped by before I had to go to work (may head out tomorrow with a camera!) and after exploring the amazingly beautiful blooms on display, I headed upstairs to the shopping area. I happen to love minis, and I put a price cap or $20 on myself. So, nothing big and nothing over $20, no matter how amazingly gorgeous it is. I admired all of the available plants, considered a mini Den (but it was above my $20 limit, which I enforced by only bringing that much cash), and then spotted the REALLY little guys. Ah, yes, this is what I wanted! The only problem was... they had TWO species that I could afford and that I quickly fell in love with.
One, and I forgot to write down the name of it, the whole plant was the size of my thumb, with 1/4 inch flowers that were kind of creamy-green and had a pouch-shaped lip, like a lady's slipper. The other was a good selection of varieties of Tolumia hybrids. I debated until I was almost going to be late for work, then decided that for now, since I'll be living at home (my parents' house) this summer, I better go with the one my mom will think I'm slightly less insane for... and that means showy flowers. As for which variety I picked, well, that was easy. So I brought home an adorable little Tolumnia Genting Sunshine, which my boss (well, I had to take it to work because I didn't have time to stop and drop it off at my dorm) says looks "spindly, and like it's dying." She based this description on the very long, thin flower spike with a few purple/yellow flowers on the end, even though the foliage is healthy and the flowers are in good shape. I explained to her that it is SUPPOSED to look like that, and she was embarrassed to have told me she thought it looked spindly and sick. Ah well, to each her own. Everyone else thought it was adorable.
Photos tomorrow, hopefully!
