Hi I live in NSW Australia and have quite a few orchids but i have a problem with this plant its a temperate climate but we get a frost in winter nad up to 40c in summer Ihave a glasshouse and bush houses can anyone help me to keep it alive thanks Eleremore

Plants of Rossioglossum like intermediate temperatures and regular watering during active growth. So in the summer, you will have to find a way to keep it away from your super hot temperatures.

What usually kills the plants are people keeping them too comfortable in the winter. They want cool temperatures with virtually no watering or high humidity during the rest cycles. While they will not take a frost, temperatures in the 40's F will not hurt them provided they are kept dry. They used to be very popular in Europe because they had deep double windows - essentially a cool box for the winter. This is a group that often does well transferred to a garage window for the winter - assuming the garage is +/- unheated but gets enough residual heat from the house to prevent actual freezes.

Finally, avoid the temptation to overpot. Think small pots and more frequent watering so that the quite fleshy roots don't remain soggy.

I grew Rossioglossum Grande at Narrabri for a few years. It did ok. My shade house never got as hot though as outdoors and I ran sprinklers over the top on really hot days to cool it off more.

I also grew odontoglossums in Brisbane in a wardian case indoors under T5 lights. I heard others have grown odonts there too in shade houses.

I think they can handle odd spikes in temp, so long as not all the time.
