two weekends go I thought I'd stop in the local nursery that carries all kinds of orchids and just look around. I should have left my wallet at home. I think the orchid lady called it an oncidium vari-something. I knew I should have asked her to write it down. Can anyone confirm that it's an oncidium?

I'm almost certain that it's Burrageara Nelly Isler. Burrageara is an oncidium intergeneric. Is it fragrant? If not, wait another few days for the blooms to age a bit, and take a sniff around midday. If it's fragrant, it's Nelly Isler. Smells like a mix of citrus, spices and ivory soap.

Thanks! That's what she called it! Intergeneric. The largest bloom has been open for about 3-4 days. No smell yet.

If I remember right, mine didn't get fragrant until about a week after the first bloom opened. After that the scent got stronger and stronger, and it just fills the entire room. I've noticed that they are not very fragrant early in the morning, and in the evening.

I've already killed two of these and am now on my third one. Nearly killed that one too, but it's making a nice come back!

I added a pic to my first post

Wow, I can't wait till all my blooms open and look like yours! It seems to like the spot I put it in.

I used to have one of these when I first started growing orchids, and I killed it!! I am so upset, since it is one of my favourites!

Both of yours look nice and healthy!

I agree, Jimbo...you can never just browse...anywhere there are orchids. There should be a sign on every door, "enter at your own risk."

This was definitely too pretty to pass up. You did the right thing!

Enjoy!

Camille, you were right! The first two blooms are over a week old now and have a very strong sweet smell...never smelled anything like it before!
