Onc. Maculatum x odontoudim

I gave my daughter in law a choice of some free orchids that I got for ordering this fall I think it was and this is one of them that she wanted. Since I have no knowledge at all on Oncidiums I am not sure what the new growth is I think but am not sure but it will turn out to be a new leaf and will bloom later on. Am I on the right track to tell her so?? If not could one of you experts give me some more info on what she should expect. Kind of hard for a newbie to tell a newbie what is going on.Here is a picture she sent me. She is tickled PINK Just to have it grow this far.

Well generally that new growth will start sending out new roots as it continues to get larger over the next few months. When the leaves has reached their maxiumum size, you normally see the development of the pseudobulb. In the case of my oncidiums, it is usually right after the pseudobulb is mature that I see the start of a flower spike.
