New Oncidium Purchase
I had to go to a neighboring town for an oil change right after Christmas. During my trip home, my vehicle veered off the main road and landed at a favorite greenhouse of mine. Go figure! Most of the orchids were gone by or in rough shape, but this Onc. Carnival Costume jumped in my arms and it was love at first sight. (I usually stay clear of Oncidiums as they don't do well for me). Forgive my lack of picture taking prepping. I'm not that type of gal! If it's not blurry, I call it good.

Nice one, Kiki, but I would really get that vehicle checked out. That condition could cause major problems in the future.

Great save Kiki, she looks healthy . I like it, but LOVE the range behind you. I just love old things and always wanted one. BTW

Nice one, kiki! My car has the same problem yours does...weird!!!
I got a carnival costume a couple years ago and have not have good luck with it until recently...most likely because it was one of my first orchids and I didn't really know what I was doing.
Anyway, I'm pulling this from memory, which isn't as good as it used to be, but I believe I read somewhere that carnival costume is native to pretty dry areas, thus they enjoy a very thorough drying out. Shortly after reading this, I noticed none of the roots on mine were growing into the potting medium, but on the surface. Once I started watering it less, it thanked me by producing lots of new roots and new growth...it's doing much better now.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Ethan, I have a tendency to overwater so that might be my Oncidium problem right there. I also have an Oncidium Onustum that is showing signs of a spike, I think.
And thanks everyone for the compliment on my kitchen cookstove. It's a Glenwood N. I use it for heat and I cook on it every day during the winter. Nothing tastes any better than that! During the '98 ice storm, I was without power for four days and it was a lifesaver.
Kim, no one knows how to fix my vehicle. It just has a mind of it's own and goes into that greenhouse parking lot every time I go by that road. I just have to suffer through the detour.

You're so funny, Kiki! Your posts always make me smile. I love your new oncidium. Strange how those little boogers follow us home isn't it?

Kiki, you have a fantastic vehicle there, but do you know of a model with the ability to search out new orchid places? That is one I would buy in a heartbeat.

I have several Carnivals! Love em! Gave one to my sister for Christmas. They are easy, let the soil dry out a bit between waterings, bright filtered sun. Put outside after last frost.
