Default Odcdm. Wildcat 'Carmela'

I moved this Odcdm. Wildcat 'Carmela' to S/H last spring. It seems to have made the transition quite well. This is a first rebloom for me. There are 12 buds on a 24" spike. The color of the lip is different this year. It's yellow in the light areas rather than white. Is that normal?

Last years bloom

I have this one blooming now and just looked at it. It is more on the white side than yellow. This is a new orchid for me and is blooming on the second spike which was just buds when purchased a month or so ago. I'd guess that your growing conditions are better than mine as my plant is on display in an east window with less than optimal lighting here in Western PA. I always thought that good light and culture would initially intensify flower color. Let's see if the lip color fades as the flowers age. You may have just grown it so well that you brought out the best color the plant has to offer.

Thanks Paul. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens as it ages. It also could be a difference in temps. The last time it bloomed was June of 07, so it was quite a bit warmer than it is now. Perhaps cooler temps intensify the colors also.

My house is kept at around 64 degrees during the winter, so if yours was whiter during a warmer June bloom, why would mine be whiter at cooler temps? I think we may be looking for another answer. I'd love to have the deep yellow throughout the flower like you do. Some parts of my flowers are that deep color, but not all. I think I'll be happy to get a nice rebloom at some point, but now I'll also be watching for a color change.
