Default Oncidium Sharry Baby

I dare to say that if you smell these flowers there's no escape, you're hooked! Fantastic scent!

Beautiful plant and photo as usual Rosim. I wonder, is the 'beauty spot' on the lip of some just random among plants or are they different varieties?

Both are labeled Onc. Sharry Baby: on the left is 'Misaki'; on right is 'Sweet Fragrance' according to their tags. No beauty spot on either.

Interesting that between us, it looks like we've got 4 different versions. Variations between plants? Growing conditions?

This is not a complex hybrid (third generation), but has produced several 'color designs', especially in the lip, mostly because of the influence of Oncidium leuchochilum, which has white lips. From plant to plant the amount of white in the flower, specially in the lips, coming from O. leuchochilum, vary a lot, from all white lip (100% influence of O. leuchochilum) to all purple, like mine (100% influence of O. ornithorrynchum), forming all kind of 'designs'. The beauty spot can be understood in this context and if the same plant repeats the same lip design year after year then you can say you have a genetically stable variety.

I have a plant similar to the first posted by Rosim and it is labelled as Onc Sharry Baby 'Red'. So it seems we have four different cultivars.

Thanks Mauro and Cabnc, I don't remember if the 'spot' was there last year or not and didn't have a camera then. I'll have to wait for the next cycle to see what turns up.
