Dying Oncidium, please help :(

Hello!

I come to you with a bit of a problem. My aunt has an NoId Oncidium and it's dying. I haven't seen the plant, she's told me this over the phone, and she promised me to email me pics (and the full detailed story), but here it goes in a nutshell.

Se bought it while in bloom, one of the larger pbulbs died after it stopped blossoming (I would think that is completely normal). The Onc was placed in a windowsill, and was knocked off it 3 times, wind, dogs and clumsyness you name it.

I guess third time is a charm because it turned overall yellow (still waiting for the pics though) I asked her to hold it and nurture it while I get the pics, or the chance to pick it up.

I guess is hard to say what is wrong and whether it has a good chance at recovery, I've used sphag-n-bag with my Phals but Oncs are completely new to me , so in the meantime, is there a s&b version for oncidiums? could I use the trustworthy bag?

I told her not to trash it, in theory... could I save it? how would i get it to re-root/grow ???

How often has she been watering, fertilizing...before it turned yellow? I haven't had success yet with s&b maybe someone else can offer their expertise on shagging onc.

We need to know watering regiment. She needs to let it dry out nearly completely between waterings. Also, how often does she feed it? How much LIGHT does it get?

Oh you guys are the best! However I regret to inform you that the little one has passed away

Just as I was leaving to pick it up, she called me and told me the Onc was a goner... dry, shriveled, hollow.

Nothing left to do

Although I don't exactly know how she took care of it, I am pretty sure she looked up at least the basic care. I guess the poor little guy just got fed up from being knocked to the floor and repotted so much so soon.

I didn't want to reply bec I thought this will happen .When leaves get yellow color no surwive is there .leaves fall down .But vandas can recover .But with
Onc. they got small pb and they die . I read in a thread that old oncidiums do not produce roots.

Can anyone help please as I have 4 yellow Oncidium about 5 years now and they are at different sizes even though they were all planted at the same time and none has flowered as yet

Usually no flowering means not enough light and/or fertilizer. We need to know where you keep them, how much light they get and how often you feed them.

For no flowers question I got simple answer . Without lights it wont live 5 years and about fert is the problem.
Bec we very rarely fertilizer them.
There for best solution is change the place of the pots.

Well they get enough light as they are out in a covered area ... roof only and a high one at that and they hang around on the eaves ... they get fert once a week as do all my orchids .... same thing but then I grow them in coals , bricks and small pebbles....only recently I have added copra to some other orchids...
The brown and white Oncidium I have is flowering all year round and even when I split the plant to get another one even that is flowering as well .. and I did that when the original pot was too small and the plant was falling off on the sides.. it is just 4 months and the new plant is flowering that is the brown and white Oncidium.
Strangely my neighbour also has a yellow Oncidium and she has had it a long while as well, it is green and has filled the pot and also no flower, she has moved it around the place just like me. Now she has put it out in the heavy rains and hopingit would like that condition.

1. In our areas we seldomn use pots to grow them.
2. They grow on tree tops and got big bushes and many canes.
3. We never use bricks , pebbles as medium and use coconut husks and coirs and some bark.
4. They live in open air and no covered roof .
( that way is difficult for you but but may be keep it near the edge of the shed .)
5. My Aunt feed it with used up tea leaves waste . ( we collcet them to use as fert.)Bec of good driainage nothing happen to it.
