Saving a Sharry Baby
Default Saving a Sharry Baby

Hi all,
I have a Sharry Baby (the OG type) which was one of my first orchids-so has been through a lot of learning (poor thing!). I managed to kill almost the entire plant except saved one of the leaflets back bulbs as a last ditch attempt to revive it, so popped it in some leca with moss top-self watering setup. It has made a new pseudobulb (tiny- about 1cm in size but plump) with a long leaf. It has taken about 6months to do this, under grow lights with temps about 18-25°c.

My question is- what are the chances this plant has enough energy to actually fully recouperate into a mature plant that will flower? If anyone else has saved one this far gone, would love to hear about it- especially how long it took!

For me, it's not the cost of a new plant, but rather feeling invested in this one as I have learned a lot from it!

Thanks!

If it has grown a new pseudobulb, it will likely continue to do so unless you do something to "knock it off the rails". It will be a slow process, but should continue on just fine.

Welcome Tansy89

Like Ray said, seeing as there is some growth and signs of life I would expect this plant to fully recover, it may just take a looooonng time!

Well done!

Welcome to the Orchid Board! Good luck with your Sharry Baby. I agree with the other posters that it may take a long time, but be patient.
