HELP! Rossioglossum Issues!

I received a new orchid today, Rossioglossum Rawdon Jester, and it has some issues I need help identifying.

It has numerous teeny tiny spots on PB’s and leaves, very heavily on the two newest growths. I know small harmless cosmetic spotting is common on the Onc. alliance, but this seems severe…?

It also has—primarily on the two newest growths—what appear to be wet spots, they look like oil stains. When I tried to wipe them, the spots quickly just disintegrated, leaving a hole with a few lingering fibers.

The two newest growths are large, but the PB’s are very slender and one has one of those oil spots near its base. The plant is in very old, soaking wet spag.

The plant was folded up in too small of a shipping container which is why I think it looks disheveled in the full plant pic.

The seller offers returns, and I think this plant should probably be returned, but I really want to learn from this!

Something was eating the leaf edges. There are probably snails or slugs in the sphagnum. Do a search here on using coffee to treat snails.

The rest of the plant looks like a typical Rossioglossum.

I would repot as soon as I noticed new root formation.

So you think that the “oil spots” in the middle of the leaves and on the PB are just where the pests were eating, and the disintegration of the tissue in my fingers is just the aftermath? That these are all just pest related isolated spots, minor, and the plant will be fine, providing the pests are taken care of?

Might also be a secondary infection as a result of insect damage.

That looks to be an old growth with the wet-looking areas. I’d be tempted to remove it, but recommend that you keep an eye on it and see if it progresses before doing anything drastic.

Thanks so much everyone, I really learned a lot from you. When I was growing in my greenhouse in the early 2000’s I never had any pests, so this was all new to me. But it was an invaluable learning experience.

The orchid is going back;just can’t risk inflecting anything on my new and growing collection.

On a plus note, Jason Fisher found a mature and healthy looking Rossio Bob Hamilton (pic below) for me, so my Rossio grande fix seems to be satiated…!
