Default Gomcidumnia Kamphaengsan White

I purchased 3 of these oncidium seedlings and put them together in a 6 inch pot. I bought them under the ID or name 'Oncidium Kampangsan White' which is an unregistered oncidium hybrid. There are several sellers in Thailand and India that are selling this plant.

However, after doing a little internet surfing, I discovered there is a registered plant with RHS under the name Gomcidumnia Kamphaengsan White.

Anyway, I can assume it is the same plant under either name. Also, Kamphaengsan is a city in Thailand with a famous university with the same name that has a huge agricultural studies program. I am guessing this plant has originated from this area.

Here is what ORCHIDS ORG. says:
"(Gomcidumnia Kamphaengsan White is an orchid hybrid originated by P. Tanpichai in 2008. It is a cross of Tolu. Catherine Wilson x Oncsa.)
Gomcidumnia J.M.H.Shaw First published in Orchid Rev. 119(1295, Suppl.): 63 (2011)
This is an artificial hybrid. The hybrid formula of this artificial cross is Gomesa × Oncidium × Tolumnia.

I have attached one picture from the seller what this oncidium will look like when blooming.

(Maybe this thread should be posted on Orchid board under 'Scientific Matters').

Whoeee... where most of the Oncidium tribe got lumped, this one shows splitting. Tolumnia, Oncidium, Gomesa are in the "mix". Will be great to see it in bloom!
Location on the Board is fine. Definitely Oncidium tribe.

Thanks for sending me a reply. I am very ignorant when it comes to all the new names that are being given to so many plants. Is my plant the first gomcidumnia posted on this website? Also, I never heard of the gomesa oncidium until now. Do you have any gomesa plants in your collection?

I do have a few Gomesa (some of which used to be Oncidium) I'm not a taxonomist, I don't know what might be the differences. The genus reclassifications have been driven by DNA evidence. (That shows what is related to what, doesn't always match morphological differences or similarities) Then, of course, if the genera of the parents change, the "human-made" genus gets changed too. I certainly can't keep them all straight... I do hope that orchidroots.com gets fixed, it's a great reference and has been down for some time. (I have Orchidwiz to look this stuff up, no longer being maintained but still very useful for that sort of thing)

Default one larger picture of the plant in bloom from the internet.

Ray, I found one larger picture. I will have to wait until my plants bloom. Sorry. Also, the blooms start out a yellow color then turn white with age.

Roberta-- I also miss orchidroots.com. I use that website's knowledge all the time.

I have been trying to join the Facebook group for Orchidroots, to find out what is going on. It is private so I'd have to be a member to see the posts. But it has been a couple of days and nobody has responded to my request to join. Not a good sign.
