Default underwaterig moisture loving oncs

hello! anybody who grows odontoglossums or miltoniopsis...

I just have a question about underwatering plants that like to be kept evenly moist. If overwatered roots are brown and mushy, then what would the roots look like if the plants are underwatered?

Say someone has a miltoniopsis or odontoglossum that is left to dry in between waterings, rather than be kept evenly moist, would the roots die?

Hi I have only limited experience of these, but I can tell you that only watering a miltonopsis once a week in England doesn't kill it, but it has yet to reflower, although that may be lack of light or too much warmth! I sometimes think that beautiful though they are, orchids are the devil's work!! All this effort and still no flowers..............
