Psychopsis Mendenhall ‘Hildos’
Really blown away by the flower on this one. I did not expect it to be so big.

And the wonderful thing about the genus is that you'll get new flowers about every 6 weeks or so, for several years on the spike. And even if the spike starts to look dead, don't cut - it may very well branch and start all over again. In fact, never cut the spike on these until it is light brown and brittle all the way to the base and stays dead for some months.

Yes, I definitely already see a second flower forming at the base. Thanks for the information!

Oooh! So nice! I hope to get a spike on mine soon.
Tell me about your grow tent and the conditions?

Sorry, missed your post. It’s under grow lights for about 14 hours a day ( at 50% intensity), humidity is usually 60-70%. Temps are usually high 80s.

Beautiful! I love Psychopsis. I plan on supplementing with lights this winter if needed. Do you happen to know about how much light you are calling 50% intensity? Do you measure light intensity? I do measure my sunlight at different times of day throughout the season just to get an idea of what my plants are getting, but this is mostly just to make sure I’m not blasting sunlight or getting too little.

The grow light says the output is 150 watts, I have that on 50%. I checked with my light meter and the leaves are getting around 1000 fc, the flower much higher. I’ve noticed the leaves fading some, so I’ll probably take the light up to 60 or 70%

Thanks for the reply. If and when you increase it please keep us updated on what that ends up equating to in fc and how the plant responds. Mine is getting around 2000 fc of sunlight for about 4-6 hours during peak day which tapers in the mornings and evenings.
