I would say Tolumnia... Ionopsis looks more like a small Phalaenopsis (at least the Ionopsis utricularioides I know )

Great,

Thanks for the info. I'll treat it like a nice little Tolumnia then.

I was going to do the same thing!!!

Sorry Andy but it's just too good to pass up

Without a bloom, it is impossible to ID this. I can see it's a Tolumnia but not which one at this time
Even with the bloom, it may not be accomplished but we'd still love to see it

Hopefully I'll be able to accomplish that. This will be my first Tolumnia so I'm still searching around for general info.

Maybe next time I photo a mini I'll break out a 5

There should be others jumping in here as well. There are several Tolumnia lovers. They are "twig epiphytes" found throughout the Caribbean. If yours is a species, then it came from a certain island. The drill with these guys is lots of water, but must dry completely overnight. The more open they grow, the more often you must water. They like as much light as you can give them. Mine are in south window supplemented with CF bulbs (105 watt) placed like 3-4" away. A purple coloration along edge of leaves and some purple spotting is a good sign that light is about right. There are lots of theories on best way to grow them, but as long as the plants get the water they desire every day and as long as the roots go totally dry between waterings, you should be OK. This is not a plant for a wardian case in my opinion. There are several threads here discussing growing conditions. Single fan plants should reach blooming size in 2-3 years, perhaps less. They can actually get pretty large. I have one with 6-7" leaves.

Great,

Thanks Ross

I'll try to accomplish that. Do you think a daily heavy misting will do it or does it need more? I'll try to gage it.

If you look closely in some of the pictures you can see a flower spike. So, this guy is mature. It came from a huge clump that seemed to get the conditions that you mentioned.
