It appears to be a tolumnia but can't be certain till flowers appear! There is a small possibility it could be a Rodriguezia or a Rhynchostele or even a Catt alliance plant of Tetramicra. If possible ask the grower you got it from for nomenclature on this plant since you said it was a division. If it is a Tolu. it would do great mounted(without sphag) or in a small pot with little media(charcoal preferred). Water daily and make sure it's bone dry by night. Try to keep water from sitting in the fans and go sparingly on the fert. It can take loads of light, these are commonly found growing in bushes & rosemarry in fields and have even been found growing on cacti! Most are intermediate~warm growers. hope this little helps and goodluck!

Ross if you have an extra tolu or a small division, try it in the wardian case. I get these from comertial growers in hawaii and the roots have algae and/or mosses growing on them sometimes suggesting high humidity environments. With the ample humidity it probably wouldn't need direct waterings or very minimal waterings I would think. Just a thought, I haven't tried this myself yet.

I did try one with exposed roots to assure the roots would dry. Placed it right under the lights as they like bright light (approx 1800 FCs) It rotted. Started with approx 6 fans and ended up with one small fan before I pitched it. I think it was too moist with not enough air movement.

Andy, Nice score! They look like healthy little guys, whatever they are. I'd like to find one of these.

Flhiker, You have a veritable photo herbarium! It seems like every pic you post has a seed pod! Keep em coming.

yup. Looks definitely like a tolumnia to me. They are common here in Puerto Rico. I love these little critters. I have collected a few of them.

Well atleast I know to not try this experiment! It was just a thought and obviously a bad one but this is how we learn right!
