So I got this around a month ago from Hausermann's and, no fault of theirs, it got stuck in Memphis for two days! I was worried about two days in the Memphis spring heat (thanks climate change), and when the package arrived it was soaked in thawed seafood juice. Whoever got the seafood must have had a worse month than me. So a Phal. Mituo King bellina (I don't quite get that name, I've posted about it and haven't looked at replies yet, oops) and Onc. Sharry Baby had some of the newspaper wet and stanky (stinky x3), but the juice didn't reach either the leaves or the pots.

I mounted the plants and touched the center leaf on the largest growth and it leaned to one side. Hmm. I nudged it and it fell out, with brown slime on the ragged edge. I sent a message through Hausermann's site and they never responded. I've been worried about crown rot, but now, well, the base of that leaf has grown out and the rot didn't spread! It'll be an ugly leaf, but a leaf nonetheless!

That was probably due to heat plus fish juice. Oncidiums are tough plants, and this is one of the toughest hybrids. That growth will never be pretty but the new growths will be. I expect it will grow through this just fine.

Hausermann's are not the best at answering Email but they do answer the phone. I find that some of the other orchid vendors are not good with email, either, so you just have to call if you wish to communicate with them.
The Oncidium will definitely be fine, though, and if your Phal does not develop rot, it should recover, too. So, no reason to call Hausermann's. Do document everything with photos, though, in case rot would develop, then just call and offer to email the photos so they can see.

The Phal is doing just fine except the root tips are dormant (actually that is ok I guess), but there are two new roots sprouting and at least one old root is starting to branch. So far I've purchased from Waldor, Hausermann, and Andy's and have been happy with all three, there hasn't been anything yet I would want a refund for.
