Question Another miltoniopsis question

I bought a Miltoniopsis Red Tide a bit over two weeks ago. It is in a fine bark mix, and in a 4" plastic pot. I have been watering it when the mix is almost dry (the bottom 1/3 of the mix still feels damp, if I wait another day, the mix will be dry). The only problem is that the roots that I can see at the top of the mix are slightly brownish, as if they are rotting, though that section of the mix dries out fast, so I don't understand how they can rot. Could it be because of low humidity? Am I not watering enough? Am I keeping it too dry?

Should I re-pot it?

also... there is a centipede in the mix!!! That is the second time I have found one in one of my miltoniopsis!!! haha

Thanks,
Cam

when in doubt wait 2 more days
it.s ok for the mix to dry out for a day or so.
if it is slightly damp at the bottom there is still enough moister . so therefore you force the roots to go looking deeper, and will have a better root system.
don,t spoil your orchids. you think in nature they get watered always on time?. that,s why they have pseudobulbs

I have a Red Tide that is flowering for the 2nd time (I bought it in flower) The flowers have extremely short stems!I had to pull one out of the leaf! I know I've been remiss because the leaves are pleated which means I haven't watered them often enough but I shall mend my ways and get a better show next year!

Keep miltoniopsis evenly moist. That means not soggy but definitely don't let it go dry either. Remember they grow in a cloud forest and enjoy moisture and a moist atmosphere. It depends on the weather and your growing conditions. This time of year (spring for me) I water 2-3 times a week and spray them a couple of times also. In winter they can grow dryer than that, and in the summer they are VERY thirsty.

They are the exception to the rule of watering when they dry out as many other orchids.
