Dying P bulbs and yellowing leaves

Don't try to remove all of the old medium - Some may just fall out, or you can rinse under the faucet or blast with a hose, pick out what comes easily. That approach will also pretty much wash out broken down/rotted medium. Then when pot it up in fresh medium (which will have lots of air) you will create a healthy environment for the roots that will pretty much stop any residual rot. I find that if I get 80-90% of the old stuff out, the rest totally doesn't matter. You can remove obviously rotten roots, but when in doubt leave them. It's often difficult to tell the good ones from the bad ones. It is much better to leave a less-than good root than to accidentally remove a new one - once you cut, you can't re-attach if you made a mistake.

The rhizome is the tiny bit of stem connecting one pseudobulb to another. In some species of related genera, like Miltonia spectabilis, rhizomes are over an inch long. In many others, and most intergeneric hybrids, they are so short the pseudobulbs are crowded together.

Here's how repotting turned out. Turns out there were 3 old, yellowed dead p bulbs that I ended up removing. The orchid was definitely root bound and majority of them were dead. I'm hoping it bounces back =/.

It definitely looks better. But then, plants always seem to look happier after a repot. Now, when you water, let the water run through the pot, and drain well before putting on any sort of saucer. The water flowing through the pot does a couple of things in addition to the obvious of hydrating the plant... it flushes out hard water- and fertilizer - salts, and it also pulls air into the root zone. As the plant dries out a bit, the water in those spaces in the new medium evaporates pulling in more air. Oncidiums should not dry out, but don't want to be soggy either. One way to get a feel for how fast it is drying out is to use a postal scale or kitchen scale. Weigh it after it has been watered, after draining. Then weigh it again over the next few days. When the rate of weight loss starts to get smaller (less water remaining to evaporate) , it's time to water again.
