From the Kew Bulletin:
A Taxonomic Revision of the Genus Phymatidium (Orchidaceae: Oncidiinae)
"The genus Phymatidium belongs to the Ornithocephalus group of Oncidiinae (Orchidaceae) and was established by Lindley in 1833 based on P. delicatum and P. falcifolium."

I found research papers studying its DNA and concurring it is related to Ornithocephalus, in Oncidiinae.

Hmmm.... Clearly reasonable scholars differ! Not sure what OW uses to put things in "breeding groups".

I'd believe Lindley over anybody alive today. He even knew right away that the Brazilian Laelias should have been Cattleyas, though he didn't fix the problem.

OrchidWiz is a compendium of hobbyist material, not an authority on taxonomy. And I couldn't find anything to suggest any botanist has ever thought Phymatidium should be in Maxillariinae.

I use to know a musician that lived on a farm near my residence (Lowell Thomas George ~ Little Feat). Joked with him all the time about a title from one of his bands' alblums "Feats don't fail me now". After trying to figure out why an orchid would be lumped into a certain group, I was joking to myself: "memory feats don't fail me now".

I recall reading a couple of those references you mentioned in your post (IOSPE, NCBI, Kew Bulletin). Thanks for attaching the link "Ecosystems, Habitats and the Brazilian Orchids". An interesting write-up (and nice treat)! Of particular interest to me, was the Atlantic Forest (Rainforest).

I don't know enough (or anything) about orchid experts to know who's right. This probably belongs wherever is more likely to be taxonomically accurate.

I heard back from the seller. They said it likes humidity, but rots out quickly if too wet, and needs to dry out somewhat between waterings. Similar to Tillandsia. I'm growing actual Tillandsia in this terrarium, so that seems like a good sign for growing this little beauty.

Any ideas if this means "help, I'm too dry" or "help, I got too wet"? It didn't have any of that yellow when I got it, and it's been yellowing for two or three days.

From what I can see in your photo, roots look good (along with the remaining green leaves). How long have you had your plant? Did you do anything different after receiving the plant (e.g., remount)? Might possibly be that your plant is still getting adjusted to the conditions within your terrarium. I haven't experienced this with my plants, so it would be useless to make a guess (from my end) about the yellowing leaves being the result of a 'too wet, or too dry' thing. Wish I could be of help.

I think I've had it about 10 days now? I did take it off the mount it was on and attach it here, with the moss that was on it when it was on the mount. Some of that moss had fallen off, but I've reattached it.

Hopefully it is just adjusting, because it does not look happy right now. It doesn't seem to be dying the way plants do from having gotten irreparably too wet, at least- they usually seem to die outward.

Is it possible this is a delayed reaction to being shipped? It was pretty hot, and I wonder if that could have stressed it out.
