Grocery Store Salvage - Mltnps. Lillian Nakamoto "Tanto"
Default Grocery Store Salvage - Mltnps. Lillian Nakamoto "Tanto"

I thought my days of grocery store orchid purchases were behind me but I guess that was more because I hadn't been in a grocery store in a year Today I walked into a Fred Meyer and a wilting Mltnps. Lillian Nakamoto was staring right at me. I negotiated the price down from $30 to $10 and walked out with my first grocery store salvage in a long time (I cringe at the term "rescue").

As expected, it was in bad shape when I went to repot. It was actually two plants, each with two new growths. The "pro mix" substrate was completely waterlogged and smelled of anaerobic bacteria (yuck!) so I did a rare "intense" root cleanup. Potted it up in a 50/50 mix of orchiata/besgrow sphag in an 8" terra cotta bulb pan, which I am sure it will appreciate. Between the 4 new growths and the lower winter temps, I am hoping it gets well re-established before warmer summer temps cause it stress.
