Oncidium back bulb propagation

The person who donated it to our auction is a good and careful grower and hybridizer. He told me he doesn't remember exactly when or where he got it, but it must have been a gift from one of three people, none of whom are around to answer questions. He believes it is likely a mass-produced mericlone. But, if this were a seedling, and the original label were printed before the cross was named, it would have shown Onc. Makalii x Brs. Rex. I can envision that crumbling to Onc. Makalii over the years, then Onc. Makalii being written on a replacement label.
