And as far as "don't disturb the roots" goes, that is simply impossible. Plants have to be repotted, and the roots will be disturbed (unless you grow in an inorganic medium and you can just drop it into a larger pot since you don't have to remove the old, decaying medium), but other than that, there's just no way not to disturb the roots. And my plants never miss a beat when they are repotted at the proper time (when new roots are starting to grow from the newest growths). There's no way to not disturb the roots, practically speaking, and it doesn't seem to bother the plants too much.

I've found it to not be that picky. I repotted my first one the MHildos, twice in one year. Then again, I converted it to SH when I got it. It just grew enough that it needed more room. The newest one I just got this spring was put into SH. The spike (about 4" at the time) has gotten longer, and I'm pretty sure it's getting ready to bloom. I might drag it off the shelf and take a picture in next day or two. A before and after sorta thing.

And speaking of buying... I was so proud of myself for just buying one single plant off Marlowe's site yesterday. It was a first. Having said that, there was only one other plant calling my name (a lavender Epidendrum) and it was out of stock. After twenty or so years, nzadro, one can start to get a bit of control over the beast.

Well, just think of all the money you're saving in the absence of shows. It has to go somewhere...

Also on the "don't disturb the roots" theme, here is my psychopsis 1-2 months after "disturbing the roots". I repotted from bark mix to fresh bark mix. The psychopsis is rewarding me with 2 new blooms, just starting to open. This is an east facing window.

Btw, I bought this from Marlow Orchid's mother's day open house 3 years ago.
