I googled it, and it is actually quite easy to find, but anybody who has been keeping up with me knows that I promised I'm through buying new orchids for this summer. I've got 4 new ones on the way right now hahahahaha. So I'd better hold off on this one for a bit. Like I said, it's easy to find, so it will still be there later when I'm ready.

But if you're in South Florida and the plant has thrived for you, then I shouldn't have any trouble with it in Texas.

oh yeah, this is a fine plant for warm weather...i am a compulsive waterer though but i have reduced my ability to over water by spreading out my plants all over so i have to fill the sprayer twice and no one has time for that lol

this guy is on the shadier side of my lath house though so it is getting medium to high light, not super bright

Yeah, I know myself. I say that I'm not buying any more this summer, but if I see this one at one of my preferred nurseries, I know I won't be able to resist. Yesterday i received a small Dendrobium nobile hybrid (Bridal Red Celebration, I think) and I got my tenebrosa and Siam Jade from Marlow, and today I'm expecting my RLC Ports of Paradise from Hausermann. But there's always room for just one more. Actually, I would do well to just give away the plants I have that won't thrive for me. If I've had a blooming size plant for three years, and it's never bloomed, I think I should send that one on its way. Then I have room for another

And I guess I could divide my LC Dinard 'Blue Heaved" which is in a 12 inch bulb pan and give away some divisions, but I don't want to do that. It's a huge, spectacular plant. I rather like it just how it is.

I see they have it at Kalapana Tropicals, but I've not always been impressed with the plants I've bought from there. They're poorly rooted in the pots, the roots aren't always in good condition, the pseudobulbs are severely shriveled. I'm gonna pass on this one and wait until i see it somewhere I trust better.

I only divide my plants in a few circumstances....when they need it because they are choking themselves, when they accidentally break when I am reporting them, or when I want to give some away...I like big orchids and I have the space so I would say let it grow

Don't worry. I'm going to let it grow. It is a magnificent plant, and it sure takes up a lot of space, but I think it's worth it. I used to divide my plants to fit them into smaller pots. I grow under lights in the winter, and a 10 inch pot is just too tall to fit under the lights, so anything too big for an 8 inch pot got divided. However now that I have discovered the joys of bulb pans, head room isn't much of an issue, so I am free to leave my plants to get as big as they want.

Here's a picture of my light set up, and you can see it's getting crowded. I think it's time to invest in a second one. I might try LED lights on the second one.

One day I woke up, and found that our two dachshund puppies (brothers from the same litter) had discovered the orchid shelf, and decided orchids were fun play things. There were unpotted plants and potting media scattered all through the house. They have a dog door, so they can go outside any time they want, and they even drug some of the plants outside. They tore up some of them pretty bad, and it sure was a huge mess to clean up. There was one plant that I never found, and there were two that they destroyed beyond recovery. A lot of them were damaged, but they are recovering. Fortunately they didn't destroy anything that can't be replaced easily.

Anyway, the spikes along the bottom rack of the shelf are to keep the dogs out of the plants. It's worked so far. There has been no further orchid massacre.
