Hi I have 3 beautiful mini oncidiums and one of them has just flowered. Their leaves were healthy and green, until my cats destroyed them! All the leaves were shredded and I had to cut them off near the base. The nodes look very healthy still. Can they still survive without any leaves?
Yes, the plant will be fine, as long as it still has a good root system. New growth will start, and then it will have leaves again. The pseudobulbs are green, so they can photosynthesize in place of the leaves. The new growth may be slightly smaller than the previous one, or it might not skip a beat and be just fine, but the plant will recover.
Drove to Albuquerque today and checked out orchids.
Came back with two, another yellow that Ray as a mule ear and probably dancing lady. I for some reason love Yellow and Wine colored orchids. The second one is a dark wine petals and a little white on the small lip. I think it is a onc. but too new to orchids. Has the same type of leaves except not wide like a mule ear type. photos to follow in a few days as it all is a NoID but quite lovely.
