Insane purchase from eBay
Default Insane purchase from eBay

One of my eBay purchases got delivered just now. I opened the package and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
The orchid name is Miltonia moreliana orchid species Syn spectabilis Oncidium

There are 4 mature pseudobulbs and 14 new growths which are pseudobulbs...... this is insane!!!

Miltonia moreliana and Miltonia (formerly Oncidium) spectabilis are not synonymous, but are reasonably similar.

Those pseudobulbs look more like a true oncidium than a miltonia to me.

Holy Hell that's a nice and healthy plant but I think the other guy is correct in that the psuedobulbs don't look quite right for a Miltonia. Now there may be cultural reasons that explain it, but I also think it's not actually a pure Miltonia.

Orchid web has the below description.... I will keep the developments posted. All mature pseudobulbs are wrinkled badly and lean. I wish they will get back to plum state after few watering.....

An incredible species from Brazil. Dark purple flowers with the fragrance of black licorice. These are nice plants that typically flower twice per year. Easy culture and great for windowsills right next to Phalaenopsis. About the same care as for Phalaenopsis as well.

It may be that your pseudobulbs will not fully revert to a plump condition. You have lots of new growths though, and good care will keep them smooth if that is their genetic nature. Have you checked the condition of the roots? Without healthy roots you won't have good water uptake.

I repotted completely after receiving the plant. Roots are in nice condition. It was previously grown in perlite and bark. Very loose media and bone dry when it arrived. I reported into combo of spag moss, charcoal, styrofoam and LECA mix. Fingers crossed and let’s see how it reacts.

Well done. Was the seller good to work with? If so, share in the vendor area. I’m always appreciative for any reviews of sellers so o can guide my own purchases.

He is very good communicative. Mailed me that he is holding off the shipping due to weather conditions and added a complementary heat pack. Packing is top notch. I got one miltoniopsis with spike and the plant is in very good condition. I placed another miltoniopsis just now. Looks like he had big plants. Seller is lifewithorchids17 in eBay.

I think that seller is one of our members. If that's her, she's a sweetheart and a very knowledgeable grower.
