Default huge difference between s/h and watered every day.

This guy was in s/h for over a year. are lots f roots not much foliage and once I gave it more light it bloomed on spike with no fragrance. maybe 2 months ago after I made the full table trays we took the saucer out and it gets flood watered every day with the same food. and man huge difference. three huge spikes and a huge amount of fragrance. our other ones in course bark area doing just as well.the spikes are almost 4 feet long.

Some comments:

1) It's a more mature plant now
2) Did you consider watering it every day in the original configuration?
3) it's still more-or-less S/H, don't you think?
4) They're not sharing the reservoir, are they?

well it was only 2 months since I took it out of the tray. when it bloomed before it had no fragrance. its had more spikes when we bought it and fragrance. well it gets fresh water every day and it dries out a little bit. there is no reservoir anymore it is flood watered and the water drains.
\all three of our oncidiums bloomed earlier this year after I gave them more light but they blooms were not much and to fragrant and short lived. they are much happier now with daily flood watering.

More frequent watering is always better. (But the aeration of the medium has to permit that, of course.)

20-25 years ago I purchased several flats of Oncidium Sharry Baby and Phalaenopsis Lemforde White Beauty - 300 of each - and got them set up in S/H pots. 150 of each were watered twice a week, the other half were watered every single day.

At 6 months, the “every day” group were significantly larger than the others.
