Odontocidium Succubus 'Night Shift' Male
Default Odontocidium Succubus 'Night Shift'

Just starting to bloom. The plant has been in semi-hydroponic culture since I got from Ray when he cleared his greenhouse prior to his move South. I hear it's fragrant, but nothing yet.

It originated with Glen Barfield at the Orchidworks.

Apparently the current genus name for this one is Oncostele.

That is a horrible name for such a beautiful, rich colored flower. IMO.

It's certainly not very flattering! But on the bright side, I recently saw Phalaenopsis bellina that someone had the poor judgement to name 'Red October'.......

Just a little early for Halloween... it is beautiful.

---------- Post added at 01:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:07 PM ----------

Just looked it up, genus is a casualty of all the renaming... It was Colmenara (does resemble some of the darker Wildcat flowers), then Odontocidium, at the moment it is Oncostele (The Odm. bictoniense was Lemboglossum, now Rhynchostele while the Miltonia part got lumped into Oncidium.

Whew! "What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;" William Shakespeare

Think about all the poor, unemployed taxonomists we'd have if it weren't for stuff like that!
