Oncidium phymatochilum -pot or mount? - Orchid Board

Hello Folks:
Who else has Oncidium phymatochilum? Potted or mounted?
I have a small one that was a 'bonus' plant, and it is starting a new growth, so it's time for a decision. Or should I leave it in the 2" pot for another year? (It has 2 very small old pseudo bulbs, two larger mature with leaves and one new growth starting)
Please post your advice and experience. I appreciate your kind help.

"The plant" has little to do with your decision. "Your conditions" are the controlling factor.

Mounted likely means you'll be watering it VERY frequently. Can you deal with that?

I have a couple dozen mounted plants, so it is not a problem.
Maybe I need to re-phrase the question:

Please chime in with your personal experience with Oncidium phymatochilum...

I guess this is not a particularly popular species.

Either one works in that context, Maryanne!

I had one that was potted, but I can see no reason that someone with mounted-orchid experience wouldn't do well with it that way.

It's now considered Miltonia phymatochila, by the way.

Mine is potted, and is growing quite happily that way.

Thanks for chiming in...
I found in wikipedia that Phymatochilum is it's own genus. Only species is P. braziliensis - or perhaps they have changed this too. Also found it is a close relative of Miltonia as Ray stated.
Personally, I don't care what the name is as long as she is willing to grow.

It grows outside at my house - so it is happy on the cool side (obviously you have to grow yours inside at least for half the year). Also fairly shady where it is growing, I'd call it "bright shade".

Very charming! If you get a chance, please upload a photo of the base of plant in its pot and medium : -)
Then, I can better decide what to do with my little "Mattie." (So many names, seems like a nickname is the way to go ; -)

Here's the plant. It's in a 6" pot (for scale), in small Orchiata bark. I got it 2 years ago, as a division with about 3 p-bulbs so I can't take credit for growing it into a mature plant, but it has added new growth and appears to be thriving.

Wow, Roberta, you're fast. Thanks for being so accommodating. I see what's going on, and will do something similar. My "Mattie" is quite a bit smaller, but it made it through New England winter chills and dark sky, so it appears to be a tough species. It's outside now, as we evicted the non-blooming plants from the tiny g'house.
I always appreciate your comments on the forum.
