How could I forget about the plumbing and furnace, not to mention the power? It's a dangerous world when it gets that cold, I'm glad you're OK.

Very nice job on the carousel horse. I always liked taking my kids to Kennywood park in Pittsburgh just to admire the beautiful carousel.
We have beautiful weather right now. All the snow and ice has melted.

Thanks Leafmite. I started another one today. I'll post a thread off topic when get them completely finished. I need a day of warm weather to seal them. Then the pole, stand and final touches.

After that horrible cold spell where daytime highs hovered around zero for several days, we then started warming up quickly and had a few days in the 40s and 50s. Then we had a minor ice storm the night before last, which made everything dangerously slippery. But today it's back up to the 40s or 50s, with a thunderstorm predicted for this afternoon. These wild weather swings are just crazy.

Love this Midwest weather, but are, just about tired of winter and ready for some warmer temperatures. Back three weeks ago we had 10” of wet snow that stuck to everything. Caused power outages and downed tree limbs. (Photo 1) A week later it was in the 60’s on Sunday and -16F on Wednesday morning with windchills in the -30’s. Then earlier this week, 0.5” of ice, it rained about 3/4” and it was 29F. Everything was coated with 1/4”-1/2” of ice.(photo 2) It did cause some power outages and downed tree limbs but not as many as it could have, if not for the wet snow three weeks ago.
Makes me wonder why anyone would want to live here. I guess variety is the spice of life.

Because I'd rather shovel the driveway than step in a nest of fire ants when mowing the lawn.

That one is easy for me to say for my ancestors. Where they finally settled in the Northeastern corner of the Hawkeye state along the Mississippi river resembled the Black Forest region of Germany from where they emigrated from. A deep river valley with limestone bluffs covered by hard wood forest.

As opposed to the South or such areas? Been there, done that, and no desire to ever do it again. There is no such thing as "paradise" .... every place has its pluses and minuses. Personally, I don't handle heat and humidity well so will take cold over hot. Only thing I strongly dislike about winter is icy roads. My mom's take on living in the Great White North .... "At least here, for 6 months out of the year all the bugs are dead."
