Default anyone enjoy gaming?

just curious if anyone shared this hobby. I know it sounds absurd trying to ask orchid people about gaming, but this is the off topic section ! I play a variety, stardew valley, smash bros, anything super Mario, halo, Minecraft, roblox etc..... one thing that i'm sure *everyone* knows about is fortnite. the game is so incredibly over-rated, and most people only play it because their friends do. my friends got me into it, but I kept playing because it was fun. I've been hearing news about pubg getting mad at fortnite for copying they're game. but if only everyone knew that it was EPIC GAMES that made the engine that pubg stole! so, anyone game ?

Ha ha...computer games. I started out with Pong on a Commodore 64 (and then our family got other games when more were available).

PC games:
I used to play Empires of Earth but after I replaced the old Vista machine with my new windows 8 machine that was over. I'd love to get that working again and keep hoping they will slap that on some streaming service. We actually have game nights and play Age of Empires with old DVD's and five people playing on computers we set up for the game (which is a pain). We are waiting for Age of Conquerors to be updated for Windows 10 which will make life soooo much easier.

Streaming/Nitendo: We've also played Minecraft on a friend's server and I have a server set up for our home wireless (You probably know that they have blue orchids in Minecraft) but we don't play it very often. I have played Mario Cart with the family but I am TERRIBLE at it and they are all very, very good. Played a little of the Wii fit thing when it first came out (long ago) but we all got tired of it.

Mobile games on phone: My kids and I were really into Harry Potter back in the day so one of them got me playing the Hogwarts Mystery game (for better or worse). I have played a few other mobile games on my phone that were introduced by my offspring but, currently, I just have the one game on it. I think that is it, actually.

first off, I do not do mobile...…. ever. no candy crush, no hill climb racing, no angry birds, and NO CLASH OF CLANS! (joking). when I first saw the blue orchid when the update came out in Minecraft, I was like: what is the now, the AU ? Nintendo wise, I don't do it the normal way. I do extreme things. trying to break my record by getting all the star coins/moons in time (the level progression types) and I've also gotten into super Mario maker here recently, where I do kaizo levels. wii fit gets old real fast though, I agree. the rule of Minecraft is long gone, and the Minecraft youtubers aren't doing any of it anymore either, which was its main source of publicity. I've been hearing the game has been being ruined by idiotic six year olds, which I think is mean, cause c'mon, let kids be kids. just because someone younger than you plays the game doesn't mean its terrible. I think the worst part to happen to the franchise was the fact that it was bought out by Microsoft though, but even that didn't ruin it. don't think I've ever heard of age of conquerors/empires though, so i'll research that.

Age of Empires, Empires of Earth...old PC games. They were some of the first games that were not turn based...old strategy games. Microsoft is redoing them for Windows 10 so wait until those come out to buy anything. The old DVD's are a nightmare to get running on...windows 7 (they won't run on anything later). We plan on buying the Windows 10 versions when they are out of Beta mode.

Minecraft just needs more to do.

I don't know if I would really call myself a gamer. I do play, but not a lot and while I've heard of Minecraft, Empires of the Earth and the likes, I have absolutely no clue what sort of games they are.

I do have a Steam account, and play stuff like Portal, Trine, Talos Principle. My current game/obsession is Ark: Survival Evolved. The official game servers are no fun because of too many idiots on them that raid other players bases, steal or kill all their dinos, and kill the players. It's super annoying to constantly rebuild from zero and never be able to have good dinos, so my boyfriend is renting a server and we play together, and have the entire island to ourselves. So we play nearly every evening after dinner, for 1-2 hours.

I'd consider myself a gamer. I play mostly Nintendo and PC games, I'm currently obsessed with Stardew Valley too. My favorite games include everything Zelda, everything Mario, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, The Sims 1, 2 & 3, Pikmin, Portal, Papers please, The Day of the Tentacle, Megaman (mostly single player or local multiplayer games). I played WoW for a while too, and that's the only MMO game I've enjoyed.

I think that there's nothing to "get" about it, because it doesn't really have a point. There's no goals, no end. You're dumped on an island in your underwear and have to survive. At first it's mostly about avoiding getting killed (too often) by gathering resources and building basic shelter and tools. As time goes by, more advanced items are unlocked for you to build/craft (ex: start with a thatch shelter, then wood, stone, metal...), and more and more resources need to be collected. And of course, you can tame dinosaurs and other animals, and the best ones to tame are of course the ones that are most challenging to do.

The real fun, for me, comes from goals you set for yourself. For example, in order to survive the freezing temps in the arctic area (where certain resources are more common), you need a fur outfit. But to make that, you need pelt. To get pelt you kill certain animals. But to harvest the pelt efficiently we needed to tame sabertooth tigers, because those are excellent pelt harvesters. And taming a sabertooth presented its own set of challenges... To do all that we had to create a new base in a more dangerous area of the island. And if you play on the official servers, you have to do all this without getting killed or looted by other players!

that sounds EXACTLY like Minecraft. just better graphics, and they have mods for sabertooths and dinosaurs. marcmaubert, I just got stardew valley a little over a week ago and i'm on already on year two ! I've fallen in absolute LOVE with the game. now if I could just file mayor lewis under armed robbery for breaking in to my storage bin while i'm asleep, i'll be all set. side note: if you play daily/every two days/ frequently camille, then you're a gamer .
