Closest is 20 min out of the way. Big R is close but not cheap. Today the Chief is checking the local elevator.
To all reading this thread: we have even had robins eating these and they never come to feeders here! Mealworms must be great stuff!

Good price. Same as TSC, unless you have to ship. Robins, bluebirds, etc, think mealworms are the BEST. And of course, so do chickens.
I use mealworms to train chickens, guineas, etc, to come when called. Now if only alpacas liked them.

I have Prime. The bluebirds sit on the rail and stare at the house until we feed them.

To those of you who feed mealworms, how exactly do you feed them? An open tray type feeder or something else? Do squirrels mess with them?

Same here on both counts. Except I have a TSC within a couple of miles, and with all the critters we have we regularly visit there.

I feed in a couple of open flat feeders. One is on a fence pole, has a roof over it, the other is a ceramic tray hanging from a tree branch. The bluebirds especially like it better that way.
Not sure about squirrels bothering. I would think not, but no squirrel experts here. They're more interested in trying to raid the sunflowers and peanuts mix I put out for the woodpeckers and cardinals. And the dog crew is more interested in guarding from the squirrels.

I have a little mesh basket that sits on the deck railing. I fill that in the a.m. we have a squirrel proof feeder and hot pepper suet so they don't come around much. I don't think they're into mealworms.

Decided to look it up, as I was guessing. From LiveScience dot com: "Many people think that squirrels only eat nuts, but this isn't true. Squirrels are omnivores, which means they like to eat plants and meat. Squirrels mainly eat fungi, seeds, nuts and fruits, but they will also munch on eggs, small insects, caterpillars, small animals and even young snakes."
Perhaps we've just been fortunate to have vegan squirrels?

I am now going to have to have a look at how many pounds my bag is. It cost me I think $16 bucks. I got them at the local feed store.
For some reason the Robins weren't eating them. I checked yesterday and they were finally gone. Not sure what ate them. I put some more out and will have to check to see if they are gone. I tried apples the Starlings ate them. I tried raisins and the Turtle ate them ( that's my dog). I will try them again and block the dogs out.
