Do not shoot the messenger. I'm a Zulily fan and I won't lie. All manner if treasures can be found there...but, today I was stunned by this:

The company isn't so bad (except for their watering campaign).

When I needed table favors for a special occasion (and wanted flowering plants!) a few years ago during a very cold spell and could find no other blooming plants anywhere, I turned to them. The packs of miniature orchids were delivered in perfect condition and not one bloom blasted. I found the sales rep very friendly and truly wanting to be helpful. He even gave me a promotional discount and made certain that the orchids were delivered on the exact date I wanted them so the orchids didn't need to take up space in my home for more than a couple of hours. It was a pretty good experience. I still get their emails with cheerful advice about decorating or craft projects involving their orchids.

Leafmite, send me that link. Last year for our fund raiser, I got them wholesale from Lowe's. This might be better. Plus, I needed them at the same time the hurricane went through Florida.

Sorry Charles...it's a girl thing.

I bought the 20 packs:

Wholesale Collection – Just Add Ice(R)

I used this to contact them:

Store Contact | Just Add Ice Orchids

First they sent the coupon and then I think someone contacted me. I am not wholesale.

The nice thing is that they come in bloom and that they are small. For me, the size was important.

If you do not mind size, another option for a fundraiser is Carmelas:

Welcome to Carmela Orchids

We have gotten blooming orchids from there for our Orchid Society holiday party. The orchids can be pretty large, though.

Where I live, Phals are pretty much the only orchid that interests anyone. I needed something small, already blooming, and I did not have space to store orchids until the event. I had thought I would find African Violets everywhere but there were none to be seen...anywhere.

Good luck!

If this is not an orchid related thing, a good fundraising idea that is plant related might be herbs. They can be started from seed (cheap) and can be matched up into sets such as tea herbs, french herbs, etc. Locally, a garden club sells herbs they grow from seed along with divisions/cuttings and this earns a great deal of money for their various charities and activities. Herbs are very popular, lately. When I first started growing them, people sort of indicated that I should be wearing a pointy, black hat. :0 Now people ask me for divisions and seeds.

No. We hold two very elegant fund raisers a year. (We see a lot of people for free). So no matter how I dressed up herbs they wouldn't work (color plus flowers). The orchids I got last year were a class act and the feedback was positive. However, I still paid $10.00 a plant...I'd like to cut that back a bit.

Phals are definitely the way to go, then. The little orchids from Justaddice were cute but not as elegant as the larger ones. Paying ten dollars for the larger Phals is pretty good. Sometimes Carmelas Orchids has specials for blooming Phals and free shipping that might be an even better deal. If you live close enough to Hausermann's, you might even discuss buying Phals in bloom wholesale from them. Sometimes, they have very good deals on orchids. I have sometimes paid $7 or $8 for an orchid only to receive it in bloom or bud.

When I first started collecting orchids, the Cattleyas were the orchids revered for their elegance but Phals have definitely replaced them. The Dendrobiums were the orchids most often used in flower arranging but Phals have replaced them in that, too. When you would see flowers in an elegant setting, in the past, this would be roses but, now, it is Phals. It is amazing how popular they are.

They last longer with poor care than almost anything other than silk flowers.

Maybe the orchids need to be in spectacular health to survive the just add ice torture.
