That's how bad they are here! I need to get to a place where I won't imagine them dying as they're poisoned. I know I need to do this. Last March 27th I very nearly lost Loki, one of my dogs to rat poison that a well-meaning friend had left and I was unaware that it was here. That experience rocked my world, and I vowed I would never use poison on any creature. But this is a pretty serious infestation that I have. So I guess it's time that I get serious as well.

So, now that I am here on this thread, I of course have
I'm always concerned about bait / poisons, because a: brutal way for any animal to die (internal bleeding to death), and b: the poisoned animal might end up somewhere that someone's dog or cat (or a wild predator or scavenger) might find them as an easy meal and then has also ingested the poison
I had a dog that once found a likely poisoned rat - fortunately she did not try to eat it, but alerted me to the animal in distress.

That was my concern for a long time. But then the problem got too big to ignore. My cats are so well fed that they don't mouse. With one exception, our mice seem to slink to parts unknown to die. The one that I found hadn't been poisoned, Dolly played it to death. Death by poison or terror, which is worse?
To bring this thread to a lighter note. When we first moved here, on Valentines Day, I found a little grey mouse dead on the basement floor with a little white heart on his tummy. I figured he was my Valentines day present (since Doug could never remember).

For those who don't know, a number of years ago Sonya told me about a boxer in an animal shelter here in Georgia. She told me of him on a Sunday, and he was scheduled to be euthanized on Tuesday. This boxer, Cassius, happily sleeps on my easy chair and is a loving, sweet, happy friend. I adore him, and adore Sonya for leading me to him.
To any concerned by my comment, the truth is that I take care of animals, and regularly feed them the small children from my neighborhood. They like the soft bones.

Ooops! Sorry!
Cassius! I'm so glad you guys found each other!
Reminds me, I adopted a kitten a couple months ago (I don't know if you saw my facebook posts), I need to share her here!

My last I took Loki, one of my dogs to the vet before work, and found out that he has Lyme disease. Consequently it turns out that mice are a huge spreader of the disease, if they've reached an invasive point. That's it for me...

I hope Loki will be alright.
Yes, mice are known carriers of Lyme disease.
