Ahhh! Mice in my engine!!

Ok. I've always thought mice were cute (I had them as pets as a child) but enough is enough! Last July I noticed a low hum whenever I turned on the ac in my car. Took it in and low and behold, I had a nest of mice in there, using some engine insulation to build a nest! The guy had to pull out my whole dash to get to it. Anyway, today I get into my car, turn on the heat, and it's making that same noise. I'll be setting traps in my garage when I get home tonight! The mechanic told me in the summer that putting bounce dryer sheets in and around the car will keep them away...NOT

I don't know about dryer sheets, but if your garage is closed, leaving a cat in there a few nights would work pretty quick.

I'd feel too sorry for the cat being cold out there And from what I've just read on line, mice get accustomed to the smell of dryer sheets among other things.

Ewwww! A rat, and dead to boot! I don't know if the mice are alive in there or not. I do see droppings on the passenger side on the floor. You'd think that it'd get too hot when the car is running.

My sympathy. We had a rat crawl up into the engine of our truck (parked outside) and it caused all kinds of problems until the dealer finally found the carcass and replaced all the stuff he had chewed. Our kids laughed at us and told us the shop was using it as just an excuse, but actually it is not all that unusual.

In the sumner, Bounce sheets might well repel mice! The mice are no doubt attracted to the heat of your engine when you get home. A couple of baited traps set under the hood would likely produce.

Yeah. This is why I'm so concerned. Well, one of the reasons. I've read about people having expensive repairs due to mice chewing wiring in the engine...
That's kinda cute though about the Christmas light bulbs!

Some (automotive and otherwise) wiring contains soy, which rodents are attracted to, especially squirrels, which is why they ate our Christmas lights (and buried the bulbs in the flower bed).

So when I got home from work last night I set 4 traps under and around my car. I caught 3 mice. 3 down probably a hundred more to go. I didn't mention that I haven't rode an issue in my house. Or maybe I have. At any rate I had to put my cat to sleep that I had had since 1998. That was a year-and-a-half ago. I have not had a cat sense and I won't at this point. Two dogs and a lot of orchids in my house. Would not mixed with a kitty cat Mouser or not!

Maybe this link will give you more ideas. Hint from me: ultrasonic repellents. They do work and they are humane, so no animal defender would accuse you in violence (such stuff happened twice in my area)
And yeah, a cat is 50/50 solution here actually. Lazy furballs may just ignore the pests.
