Texting in your sleep?
Don't know if anyone else out there has had this problem but it's becoming increasingly disturbing for me. I have a great deal of trouble sleeping, but I am very very sensitive to over-the-counter sleep medications. Like Benadryl and nightol and that kind of stuff. So for the last 2 years or so I've been taking an Ambien at night. It's a very low dose. 6.25. The problem though is that lately I seem to be doing things that I am unaware of and have no memory of. One example is I see that I posted something here on the OB and I have no memory of doing it. Last week I think I tried to wash my dog in the middle of the night. I googled this and it's pretty alarming what I found. I really need to find something that I can take that will put me to sleep but won't leave me in a fog. At any rate, if I ever post or respond in an off-the-wall or odd manner, chalk it up to the Ambien

I have a friend with the same issues with OTC sleep aids. She found out from SO that she was eating in her sleep. The SO initially didn't realize she was sleep eating. I know she was using Ambien or another prescription but not sure if the sleep eating happened under the drugs.

FWIW, I use melatonin.

I think you should find specialized help for that.

Following AnonYMouse's post, I would talk to your medical professional about melatonin. It really helped a member of my family with sleep regulation. Getting an opinion can't hurt! Also less expensive than prescriptions.

Unfortunately I could take a bottle of melatonin and it wouldn't affect me. I've tried it. And trazodone. Same problem. Oddly enough one half of a 25 mg tablet of Benadryl will knock me out, but I'm in a fog for half of the next day.

I think it's safer for you to search for specialized medical help.
And don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Go to a homebrew store. Buy an ounce of hops flowers. Boil a pint of water. Pour it over the hops flowers and let it steep overnight in the fridge. Strain it, add sugar to taste (a lot!) and drink a shot glass full before bedtime.

Oh lord, I took Ambien for about three years or so, and I had to stop taking it because of the things I would do at night and have no memory of in the morning. I would text, make phone calls, buy stuff online, but what was the most disturbing to me is that I would cook. Not just heating something up in the microwave, but I would cook like full meals with a main dish and several sides, just in the middle of the night. That scared me, because I worried what if I finally fell asleep with something on the stove and burned the house down, or what if I get started and realize I need something from the grocery store, and then I decide to drive to get it, and I cause an accident and kill someone, and then I go to prison for intoxication manslaughter. I quit taking it, but I haven't found a better solution, so I'm just up all night and then tired in the day

You should definitely talk to your doctor or pharmacist about what you are experiencing. It might be useful to try to find the cause(s) behind the insomnia and to treat this/these. Sometimes easy modifications such as avoiding caffeine in the afternoon, switching from coffee to tea, eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise can help. You might need to additionally add a relaxing sleep routine (i.e. listening to opera/classical music and reading a book).
If none of this helps, going to a sleep specialist/clinic might help. Good luck!
