Some photos from my country this summer...

61 fatalities last June...
32 more yesterday (one of them a 1 month old baby), plus 7 missing.

Thank you, Fernando.
I've seen that in Galicia they're having a hard time too.
Rain was forecasted for today but it only started now (not really rain, more like mist).
And now there are also fires near my town (again), can't walk on the street because of the smoke.

Let's hope it will finish tonight.

I think those are plastic sheets covering bodies. On that road more than 30 people were killed.

On the news today I saw images of a burned house with a wine celler..all the glass bottles were melted.
I can't imagine the temps needed to do it.

Yes, in California the situation is also serious. I saw it on the news too.
Our planet seems to be changing too fast. We now, here in Portugal, are having heat waves sooner than usual (April) and dry spells months long.

I'm sad too, I almost start to cry when I see these things. My region is always severely affected by forest fires. We are on the limit of a dense forest with a huge area and small little vilages surrounded by forest, mainly pinus and eucalyptus, which are highly combustible. When it starts it's difficult to stop.
Going to a high place is a heartbreaking view, just black and gray...nothing green in sight for kms in any direction.

I, too, am so very sorry to see that. It seems the news is filled every day with the tragedies of fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, and mass killings. I can hardly bear to watch the news anymore. It's just too heartbreaking.

Thank you, my friends, for your simpathy.
Now, as it started to rain, all the fires are finished.
Now let's wait for the rains to wash away all the ashes and to see how the government will help those who lost everything.

In spite of everything, there are good news: the 1 month old baby was found alive as well as 6 of the missing persons.

Lets hope the rains are benign; the ashes must not get washed away into rivers and lakes and rias/sea.

So many people died, but for the news Portugal is far far away ... it's a shame. Why are Spain and Portugal living back-to back ... ?
