These plants were chomped early in the season by slugs. Then a few days ago many stems were broken by the first Autumn gales. However, this toad Lily has finally bloomed - essy to see why it is also called Poor Man's Orchid. It is 'Blue Wonder' - supposedly soil conditions can affect the blueness of it, but I also wonder if the photos are altered by suppliers.
Hmmm...I'll have to go out and look at mine. They are a great shade plant! It's been pretty dry here so mine may not look good either.
This is my first year with them, they did do well in shade, now it's just hoping frost is not in the forecast, it's getting down to about 4C at nights when it is clear, usually first frost is about end of October so we'll see.
They can handle a kiss of frost. Try growing it the with Begonia Grandis. Very pretty. The begonias come back from small corms so don't clean up super good in the spring. Its a very rewarding combo. You might even think about Caryopteris "Snow Fairy" with them. All shade lovers.
