vvesto is safe
vvesto contacted me. He and family are safe, with only a little damage to their home. They were not in the evacuation zone. They are on higher ground and did not have flooding. Some horizontal rain was blown under the door. He has mobile phone access but no Internet access. Several mobile carriers in the area are out of service, due to antennas being blown down.
The flooding in the rest of the Ft. Meyers/Cape Coral area was fortunately not as bad as predicted.
Other friends north of Miami are fine. They had some fence and roof damage, but not a lot.
The Homestead area, home to many nurseries, had sustained winds in the 50-70 miles per hour range (80-115km/h.) I have not heard from people there.

Good to know he's safe! It was his call to make whether to stay or not since he was outside the evacuation zones, but all the same I was worried and wondering if it was the right choice given the scenes of devastation coming out of areas impacted earlier.
Hope our other OB members from FL are safe as well.
I saw on Facebook that Motes Orchids had prepared as best they could for Irma- they took down all the plastic on the greenhouses in the hope that the structures would resist better that way, and took down all the vandas hanging from the structures. No idea what damage they have.

RF Orchids is also in Homestead. I wrote them before the hurricane hit but they didn't respond, no doubt too busy.
Southeastern Florida, including Homestead, is still experiencing sustained winds in the range of 30 miles / 50km per hour. This is the forecast for Homestead:
Tabular Weather Forecast for 25.51N 80.45W

Those are good news. Probably he won't be online soon due to lack of electric power and communication line damages.
Thanks for the good news, ES.

Thanks es. I hope others are OK also. Tucker was in FL. Even though he doesn't come on any more I hope all is well with him. He had some really nice Catt's.
