I just started keeping Pings last year. First one is P. grandiflora, which is cold hardy here, second pic is an assortment of Mexican species which are subtropical and require a dry winter rest. They actually have two different types of leaves, one for the dormant phase and a carnivorous type for the active growth period spring to fall.

Hobbyists have made a lot of Ping hybrids.

Well, I learned something today. Like John, I knew them as Butterworts (where did that name come from). Absolutely darling and adorable flowers but, the insect part bothers me...
Good luck, Tindo!

I just love all the pictures of these! I looked through them a couple of times as they are all so wonderful!
Whatever I have never goes dormant and dies if it gets too cool, dries out, or doesn't have enough light. It also dies if I accidentally use tap water and do not flush well with distilled/rain water. It sometimes blooms most of the year, depending on the gnat population. The more gnats, the more blooms. It has nice purple blooms. It came from Porters Orchids. I divide and give away the extras now at least once a year (I just did this in March). I have no idea what it is but it is very good with catching the fungus gnats, fruit flies, small spiders and even mosquitoes.

When you grow plants that need to stay damp, fungus gnats can be an issue. These little guys are a real life-saver to me. I don't usually have fungus gnats but they sometimes come with a new plant and then I have an explosion. I much prefer the bugs to be sticking on the leaves of the ping then floating in my water or flying in my face. Yuck!

Insects are yucky, yes, but carniverous plants EAT them and so are awesome.

Lol. One of his posts last year got me started on carnivorous plants and now I have a 10 gallon aquarium full of them. Almost feel sorry for the poor bugs I find stuck on them. Almost.

Pings are great!
Hopefully this is in order :
P. gypsicola, P. lusitanica, P. gigantea, and P. esseriana
Watch out since lusitanica is a biannual/annual with self seeding flowers. It also wants to stay moist throughout winter whereas esseriana wants it almost completely dry

Its this one that's special. Its been in bloom for about 9 months, continuously. Anyone know the species ? I got it at a show, as a "ping"

That first one is crazy!
The second reminds me of Pinguicula Aphrodite but I couldn't positively ID it, it definitely has gypsicola or medusina in it

Mine also never seems to go dormant. I keep one division in my kitchen window above my sink for fruit flies and one division in what used to be my only orchid growing space. I need to divide it a few more times now.
I love it. It even took out a mosquito or two that got in the house last year.
