Default The Prothonotary Warbler

Hi all,

It is my privilege to be able to share with you some pictures I took this afternoon of a very special warbler. This is the Prothonotary Warbler. It is probably so named due to the fact that a special order of clergy in the Catholic Church (the church's lawyers) used to don similar colours.

This is a more Southern species which prefers deep dark swamps where it's colours can really show. We in New York City are lucky enough to get treated to a few individuals of this species on a yearly basis for only a few weeks in the spring and sometimes even a visitor or two in the fall.

This is my favourite Wood Warbler because as I like to describe it, this is a little ball of sunshine with pewter armoured wings. It reminds me of an Angel. Just amazing!

Please click on the link to see the images in full size and clarity. They aren't as sharp on the links below.

That beautiful!

Btw, Tindo, I always love to see your birds photos, not only because of them, but also by the quality.
That's another great hobbie you have.

Those are wonderful photos, Tindo!

We see these warblers here (Georgia) pretty regularly, and they are beautiful. They don't spend a lot of time in New York, kinda flying through for a quick visit before returning a bit South. You were quite fortunate to encounter this bird, much less to get such beautiful photos of it!
