Trying to replace my disabled photobucket images.

Started with my 1st post this tread. Can load 2 images per post.

Have deleted an image in the 1st post to get it to work.

Have I created any forum issues doing this?

Work in progress to fix images. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks.

Not sure if you already mentioned it, but have you joined the Bromeliad Forum? It's been a while since I visited last but I thought they had several Tillandsia growers in Australia.

Also, if you haven't already tried contacting these nurseries... Bird Rock Tropicals and Rainforest Flora.

Have you joined Flickr? The Tillandsia group has 277 members. I've received Tillandsia seeds from a Flickr friend in Brazil.

It's rather interesting that you seem to shelter your Tillandsias from the rain. I'd love to have even a little summer rain! But nope. We only get a little rain when it's cool/cold and the Tillandsias don't really want/need it. Well... that's the interesting thing. My tree has at least 100 Tillandsia aeranthos on it. They are all seed grown (as opposed to divisions) so they are all different. They don't all have the same exact range of growing temps. But I wonder how much difference there is in their ranges. The individuals that can take the most advantage of the winter rains will out compete the other individuals. So the population will adapt over time to the local conditions. The time it takes for the population to adapt depends on the amount of difference there is in growing temps.

On my Youtube I have a couple videos of the wind disseminating some seeds of the Tillandsias on my tree. I've seen the hummingbirds pollinate aeranthos but haven't yet seen them pollinating ionanthas. For the first few years the ionanthas didn't have any pods develop. But now they usually do. I guess somebody is pollinating them.

Our climate is very much warmer than the place where most of my plants have come from. They have to use hot houses in winter to get the warmer liking plants through cold times. When they get into our bush house that is very open the plants change in size and colour very quickly. They generally look more robust,stronger and appear to start growing, some start flowering and pups also start to appear in a matter of weeks.

In summer here it is not uncommon to get a yard or meter of rain in under 2 days.

Many of my warm weather loving plants would not make it through our cold weather being wet over nights so I am told. Plus have lost a few plants experimenting which I stopped doing very quickly as they became very weak looking.

Your Tillandsia aeranthos sound like they are really something. Great that you got the seeds to work for you.

This is an interesting add to my growing on collection of Tillandsia's. By searching have found out this plant is rare and is not in commercial production anywhere in the world. Have managed to get 42 very nice cuttings to grow on. If I wanted too I could break them down to around 100 small cuttings.

Am looking very hard to get some hard to come by plants in some sort of numbers.

The image looks more out of focus than it is because it has hair all over this Tillandsia. It is robust and no damaged parts have appeared for 2 week since I broke them down.

This is another Tillandsia that I have not seen any of them for sale in Australia before and managed to get them in some numbers. Most of the bigger plants have pups. This Tillandsia flowers last for over 12 months. A small aggressive clumper. They have more of a red/silver colour to them than the image shows.

Have found the best seller of Tillandsia's and he live close by relatively.

The sellers Grandfather started a Tillandsia farm near the coast and from his travels by ship as a on board worker he collected many Tillandsia's. He apparently always came home with Tillandsia's in his pockets. Then his father increased the collection and now the son is the only one left. It has been a real pleasure meeting him. He is very generous when buying in numbers. Not to many people have received me in this manner. Quite refreshing!

Have already lined up my next buys from him in Jan next year.

Tillandsia caulescens has been in flower for some months now with most of the examples in flower.

The red flower sheaths are a great show but now the white flowers are coming from in between the red brackets. A very good looker!





The T. ionantha mexicana have shown great growth rates here. These are all pups we have grown. Top right is some of the pups that have had pups.
