Looks like I will sell them as colder climate plants this winter. Which is basically now here. It is a no winner Tillandsia in this climate.

Quick question... if you don't mind. Have you been able to flower your T. utriculata ssp. pringlei ?

The reason I ask is because I've been growing this one for many years and have not had this species flower to date. I really like the structure of this plant, its small size, and the grey/silver color of its leaves.

This is one of the most prolific pup producing 'Tills' in my collection. It does not take long for a single plant to transform into a large clump. I know there was a conversation about T. utriculata & T. utriculata v pringlei in regards to the pringlei variety having either polycarpic or monocarpic tendencies (along with the comment that the monocarpic form has a nickname of the "pupping clone") on an Australian bromeliad.org website some years ago. I don't think that has anything to do with flowering, but I'm not quite sure.

Hi wisdomseeker.

No have not been able to get T. utriculata pringlei to flower here as yet. But I have only had an example for under 12 months though. Do expect it to flower for me. It is just such a strong growing miniture here. I very much like the flower description. Only when these plants flower will I truely know which plant this is. At least I know they are all from the same colony.

Now have some great Tillandsia information to draw on. With this 2nd book of Paul Isley III being Tillandsia II plus adding some bookmarked on-line Tillandsia sites is helping to fine tune where to put that Tillandsia and which ones will suite my growing location.

A lot of what is missing from the 1st book is in this 2nd book much to my relief. Managed to get a new copy from the US for US$72 + mailing.

Growing Epiphytes & Lithophytes is now my thing to do but Tillandsia has really got a hold of me. Just totally enjoy growing them. Good buying contacts just keep coming at just the right time.It is winter here now and my plants are still growing. We have had a lot of heavy unseasonal winter rain here. If I did not have a solid cloth roof over my plants I would be in a lot of trouble now.

Tillandsia butzii is a plant that grows here and has increased in numbers but the odd smaller or & larger plant would die on me.

So reading in Tillandsia II that these plants do well being grown position upside down. When this plant is the right way up it collects water at the base of the leafs and tends to rot and die.

Have also found this issue with Tillandsia caput medusae, Tillandsia pruinosa & Tillandsia seleriana. Am going to hang the plants I have.

Have used large pegs attached on the side for the 1st time hanging Tillandsia butzii so the plant should drain quicker.

It is well and truly winter here now. Temp is locked into a range from about 24c to 10c or 75f to 50f.

The growth in Tillandsia House is amazing. Small form T. funckiana, T.ionantha mexicoana,T. mallemontii, T. Chiapensis and T. stricta in perticular are growing at a strong rate.

New plants Tillandsia utriculata, T. aeranthos miniata and T. crocata are doing really great as well.

Amazing the cooler weather this year and growth rate.

I think most of those are higher-elevation plants that have summers a lot like your winters - and even cooler.

Tillandsia's native altitude needs to be looked more closely at as you say estación seca as it can start multiple growing seasons by the look of things.

Tillandsia that grows from sea level to 2,500 feet look like having several growing seasons here. It really is amazing. Have never found this with any other plants.

a coupe of our bloomers. the ball guy has the bloom coming out of his base way different bloom then we usually see.

Have started fertilising every 2nd week all year round. With the winter growth here it makes a small amount of fertiliser & seasol look very good.
