The Yellow Warbler is one of the most common of our warblers. Males are bright yellow with orangey streaks on their breasts. The females are a duller yellow, but still bright. They can be found throughout the summer in most parks in NYC. Any park with a river/stream or lake/pond/ditch and a good bit of vegetation will allow these beauties to nest.

Here is one of our earliest of Spring Migrants heralding the beginning of the migration. The Palm Warbler with the ruddy cap on the head of the male. I think only the Pine warbler gets here first. It also arrives just a few days short of the Yellow-rumped Warbler. This bird breeds in boggy areas way up north from the Adirondack region and up. They are also one of the last to come back south heralding the end of migration in the fall. It's nice how these things work.

Default The Black-throated Blue Warbler

Hi all,

So enough with the yellow birdies. Here I present to you the Black-throated Blue Warbler. I took this photo today in Prospect Park, Brooklyn NY.
Not the best photo, but good enough. This is my favourite warbler of all, because as some of you have read me saying, I'm a sucker for blue living things.

The males of this species looks the same now as they do in the spring.

Another Black-throated Blue, or as we birders call them, BT-Blues.
