Warblers! 2016

This morning I rounded the curve and saw 3 Sandhills in a recently harvested field. I only had my phone so my picture is dismal. I'm going to download an app and try to resize and send it to you. I think the size of my pictures is the problem.

It was SO Suprising to see them feeding next to the Canadians. I had heard that there were a couple year round nesting pairs west of here near the lake. I have never seen them feeding so close and I thought of your beautiful warbler pics immediately.

This is the Ovenbird. In Spring, it has a wonderfully bright orange stripe on the head. Now in the fall it is not so bright, but otherwise the bird looks the same. It normally walks on the forest floor like a small chicken, and in the spring does a wonderful song that sounds like it is repeating the word Teacher...Teacher....Teacher many times over. The Oven Bird
There is a singer everyone has heard,
Loud, a mid-summer and a mid-wood bird,
Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again.
He says that leaves are old and that for flowers
Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten.

When pear and cherry bloom went down in showers

And comes that other fall we name the fall.
He says the highway dust is over all.
The bird would cease and be as other birds

Wonderful! If only this little one knew he inspired such melodious literature. My day begins with a smile.

Tindomul's photography skills are amazing. The act of capturing such beauty is almost an act of worship. These photos make our day brighter. We live close to the National Lakeshore but, have little time to go bird watching there. Our feeders have a high quality/quantity of migrants but my photo skills are poor. Thank you Tindomul.

Actually yes, that's exactly what he was thinking, as he was on the ground but when he heard me coming he popped up onto those branches to check me out. SOmetimes they make it so easy.


Thank you everyone for the kind words. I love sharing these with all of you because it is my hope that others can appreciate or learn to appreciate what we have. You will never miss what you didn't know you had, so I hope you all start to yearn for these every year.

Tindomul, I suppose these are common by you. I was hoping to see a flock of them this morning, and as usual, I did. On the way home this lone straggler was right up by the road. Anyway, here's a picture or two. He seems to be hunting frogs. Again, sorry, I only have my phone camera with me.
