The view from my window
That's right! A massive fire, 9 miles from my city, is burning houses down, people dislocated from their homes....Unfortunately, we are used to this...that's the same thing every year...land owners should clean their lands, the law requires it but....
In 2003, the city where I live was completely surrounded by fires, no one could get in or get out, no sun for three weeks, only smoke.
Many of these fires are started by pyromaniacs. With temps of 104 F (40ºC), HR around 15%, high winds, miles and miles of forest...the perfect recipe for disaster.
For now the horizon is all red, a few flames are visible already...Let's see what the night brings.

Oh my, how awful! That looks terrifying from your window and it really seems close. I can not imagine seeing this from my home. Do you need to leave your home? I don't think I would wait until night fall, I would be packing and leaving. I hope you stay safe, update us if possible. I'm so sorry. Nature can be so cruel.

Thank you, Pattywack.
It is safe... for now. We have extremely corageous firemenwith a lot of experience. As I said , this happens every year everywhere in the country.
So that you have an idea, this year the total burned area in Portugal is more than half of the total in the rest of the EU.
That a blow to our ecosystem and economy.

That is awful! I thought they were neat rain clouds at first (Where I live, clouds are very, very common). I am sorry for those who lost their homes and possessions.

The fire was extinct relatively fast. It lasts for only one day but two small vilages needed to be evacuated. Some houses were destroyed and 6 people injured, 3 of them were fireman mostly by exaustion.
All could be worse.

So glad you're okay. That was one of the most frightening pictures I've ever seen!

That's terrible, it's amazing how humbling these things are.

I've seen the news about what is happening is California and Louisiana... So sorry for those who lost their possesions and family. I hope everything is finished already.
In California I think it's common to have huge fires this time of the year. At least, every year I see the same on the news.
Well, here's the same. We are so used to it that we can tell what king of trees are being burned by the color of the smoke.
