Hi Jerry -
Here is a thread I started on Clivia which gives you links to it's care and culture, also mine and other member's experiences with this fascinating plant - Tindo! Clivia
and this is Tindo's thread on his Clivia - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...finally-2.html
If you have any other questions, just ask

Charm - these plants can get very big
The one I have in the photo is in an 10 inch pot and it's not fully grown
Just so you know, these babies need plenty of space
For growing here in the NorthEast, I bring them in before the fall frost but keep them out all summer in a shady area ...
Jerry has seen them growing outside in Cali in full sun .. but I can not tell you from experience whether they can stay out year round

Jerry - those must be a hardier species and/or hybrid/cross than the ones I have .. if my clivia are in direct sunlight for even a few hours .. their leaves turn a nasty yellow/brown to black and eventually dessicated to dust.

Dorothy, it might just be a matter of acclimating the plants to full sun. The plants that I observed were in Costal Southern California. I grow amaryllis here in Fl. in both shade and full sun. Those in shade retain their foliage but the plants in full sun loose all leaves. Oh, and thanks for the link. More fertilizer and a repotting job is what I think my Clivia needs.

Here's a follow up post for you Dorothy--this is one of my oldest plants, it blooms every year right about this time. So far as I know it is a Belgian hybrid.

Don't feel bad, Tindo -- I've never gotten mine to bloom and I've had them over 7 yrs now [probably close to 10. Figure come spring I'll try to trade a couple of them off if an interesting trade can be found.

Paul--
I'm not sure how you are growing your clivia, but remember that they need a cool winter rest period with very little water. I put mine under the Cymbidium benches in the gh in November and forget about them until the end of January--then I give them a bit of water to wake them...and I usually will see spikes 2~3 weeks after (though some will already be spiking before I give them the water in January)
Good luck!
Adam

I never pollinate mine Dorothy... though it would be interesting to see what the seedlings might end up like...

I have one, but it's been in isolation for quite a while because it used to have mealy. I guess I'll let it rejoin the herd.

I was wondering about kind of media to use when I repot - I think I read about fir bark somewhere? Seems like the roots and leaves are similar to phals - could I just use my leftover BetterGrow phal mix? Right now, it's in soilless potting mix with extra perlite.

Is there a rule of thumb about how big they need to be to bloom, and how much to fertilize?
