Default Yucca rostrata blooming

This came to me in 2004 as a bare-root plant that had been uprooted from land being developed. I got it at the same time as the Y. faxoniana I showed elsewhere, which is still a juvenile plant.

Yucca rostrata is a west Texas plant whose range extends west into New Mexico and south into Chihuahua. It intergrades with Y. elata in New Mexico and eastern Arizona, which is native here in Arizona at higher elevations. It intergrades with Y. rigida to the south.

This plant has approximately doubled in size. This is its second flowering. Yuccas don't flower every year until they become very large plants.

The golden barrel cactus at the base (Echinocereus grusonii) is about 2 feet / 60cm in diameter.

The flowers open from the bottom of the cluster up. Each flower lasts a few days, and the whole flowering a few weeks.

After that... the bloom stalks can last for years!
