Nice examples of succulents you have there. Living on the edge of West Texas all my life I am a lover of cactus! My Mom always had cholla, native barrel cacti & hen & chicks in her yard. She was not a person who liked house plants, only things that could grow in her yard. She hated our native prickly pear (opuntia) and refused to keep any of it.

I always loved house plants best and have had many different types of cacti in the past I kept inside. Plus I had several of the giant barrel (ferocactus) I bought from a local garden center I kept in my yard. Yuccas & Agave were always my favorite too. And lets not forget the Ocotillo, my hubby's personal favorite. I didn't keep as many succulents other than some of the smaller aloe species.

When my hubby drove an 18-wheeler across the US for 5 yrs I raised a plastic tub of baby cacti from seeds under florescent lights on the end of my bed. They did fantastic traveling all over the place, they seemed to love it. I loved traveling through Arizona & California where the giant barrels grew. Loved the saguaros equally as well. The desert in bloom is like no other view around! Sadly I lost all of my cacti I had in my yard outdoors in 2005 due to the lake behind me flooding. My house & yard was under water for 11 days. No cactus can stand that kind of treatment. I have this yr begun to build my cactus collection back again. They are still my first love.

Sorry about the flooding. That was awful.

Wonder who posted the comment on silly succulents...

love em, estacion! Succulents are looking great all over LA...

I've just today been wrestling with a macrocentro and other opuntias (macrorhiza and something else)for client who wanted a hedge of them in (big) pots on a patio... i literally had needles all over my arms (no, apparently too much a man to have fancy needle proof rose gloves), and i still have to get to a couple of them to plant........

for those who want smaller cacti for inside the house, rebutias are great little things that don't need as much direct light and have big colorful flowers...

haworthias are also great little succulents for inside the house...
